OPEM Artists in Residence 2019 Michael Shaw, Belén Cerezo and Ros Lorimer
The Collection Museum is delighted to host Michael Shaw, Belén Cerezo and Ros Lorimer as OPEM Artists in Residence 2019.
The Collection Museum is hosting OPEM Artists in Residence 2019, transforming the New Curtois Gallery into working artists’ studios for six weeks. The artists in residence, Michael Shaw, Belén Cerezo and Ros Lorimer, will develop new work in response to our collections, visitors and museum spaces.
Visitors to the gallery can see artworks in progress, talk to the artists about their work as they make it and may even be able to get involved and help develop the work itself.
OPEM Artists in Residence 2019 is Pay-What-You-Decide, allowing visitors to decide how much they want to donate to the museum to experience this exciting exhibition.
The Collection Museum is open from 10am until 4pm daily, last entry 3.45pm.
This exhibition has been funded by Arts Council England.

Come along to an afternoon of lively discussion around artists working in museums to mark the end of OPEM Artists in Residence 2019. Our artists in residence will present their work and discuss their findings, alongside talks from invited guest speakers.

More about the artists in residence:
Dr Michael Shaw is a practicing sculptor and is the Curator of Exhibitions at Burghley House Sculpture Garden in Stamford, UK. During his residency, he will aim to create a working studio that enables CNC paper cutting (a machine-aided method of precision cutting) and drawing responses to collection artefacts.
Artist's Biography
Michael has over 20 years of professional experience, participating in multiple solo exhibitions in the UK, group shows around the world, and receiving numerous public commissions. In 2005, Michael completed a practice-led PhD that explored Donald Judd's concept Specific Objects. Alongside creating and curating sculpture, Michael currently delivers seminars, lectures, tutorials and workshops at The University of Derby and Loughborough University.
Belén Cerezo produces videos, photographs, writings and moving-image installations and she is interested in examining the functioning of images. During this residency, she will explore the boundaries between 'looking at' and 'being in' through an on-going moving-image installation composed by footage filmed in the museum and its surroundings. The starting point for this testing is the story ‘The Egg and the Chicken’ by Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, which will be used also to analyse the process and methodology for making a new work.
Artist's Biography
Belén is an artist and researcher and completed a practice-led PhD at Nottingham Trent University in 2015 where she is an associate lecturer in Photography. Recent projects include the: site-specific moving-image installation 'Living the Day’ at C. C. Montehermoso, Vitoria, Spain, 2018; project ‘To Come Back, To See, To Move’ resulting from the residency at Foundation Bilbaoarte in 2016; and National Trust commission ‘Rehearsing Memory, Belton 2015’ for Belton House.
Ros Lorimer is an artist and archaeological illustrator who has set up an archaeological drawing office in the New Curtois Gallery. Ros plans to make examinations of artefacts from The Collection that have 'arrived' at different times in Lincolnshire from other locations, leading to a creative and topical exploration of migration and travel through the ages.
Artist's Biography
Working as an artist and archaeological illustrator based in Lincolnshire, Ros' career combines her twin passions for archaeology and art. After gaining a degree in archaeological illustration, she worked for 10 years as part of the graphic team at Oxford Archaeology and was involved in the production of artwork, plans and drawings for some of the country's largest archaeological excavations. Subsequently, Ros and her husband cofounded their own heritage graphics company. Ros produces graphics for projects across the United Kingdom from Scotland to Cornwall, and internationally encompassing Europe to South America, and she has handled cultural heritage artefacts ranging from the Neolithic to the 20th Century.
