Greek & Roman Archaeology

The Greek and Roman archaeology collections contain classical archaeology collected by various Lincolnshire individuals in the 19th and early 20th centuries and subsequently donated to the museum.

The collection includes a small but attractive collection of Greek red and black figure ware vessels, including some high quality pieces, and examples of Greek and Roman glassware, ceramics, jewellery and everyday items. The collection also includes examples of Etruscan (pre-Roman Italian) metalwork and ceramics.

The collections of Captain Melville include items of daily life from Rome and southern Italy including oil lamps, bone theatre and gladiatorial tickets, jewellery and children’s toys.
