Lincolnshire Artists’ Society Summer Exhibition
An exhibition of recent paintings, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, glass and print by the Lincolnshire Artists' Society members at the Usher Gallery.
The Lincolnshire Artists’ Society first exhibited at The Usher Gallery in 1927 and has exhibited there many times over the years, but it is always a very special occasion for its members. The Society returns again for its annual exhibition from 7th July to 1st September 2013. Ian Walter, a firm supporter of the Society, will be formally opening the exhibition on the afternoon of 6th July.
Les Dabrowski, Chairman of the Society, commented: “ It is always a joy to be able to exhibit in such a prestigious gallery as the Usher and it is much valued by members. I know, from feedback we have had from previous visitors, that the quality and range of work on show is always appreciated and many a visitor has been drawn to purchase an original artwork from one of our artists. We hope that people will find the time to come along and support local artists”
The Lincolnshire Artists’ Society, founded as the Lincolnshire Drawing Club, celebrated its Centenary in 2006. Inspired by the Cambridge Drawing Society founded in 1882, it was followed by the St Ives Society in 1927.
Primarily an exhibiting society welcoming artists from all over the county, the L.A.S. started out with an Annual Exhibition in the loose boxes of the stables at Monks Manor, Lincoln, the home of its founder, Miss Elsie Ruston, and her art collecting industrialist father, Joseph. It moved to the city’s Exchange Arcade in 1910 following interest from the press and public, then to a room in the new Central library eventually finding its ideal home in the Usher Gallery from 1927. A great survivor, it emerged from an enforced period of inactivity in the First World War and has had an unbroken run of exhibitions in Lincoln and around the county ever since.
Artists from the L.A.S. will be present at the exhibition from 1-4pm every Saturday and Sunday, and everyday in August 1-4pm (last admission 3.45pm).
