Lidar mapping of the River Witham: new approaches to ancient landscapes

To celebrate the loan of the Witham Shield to Lincoln, this free lecture examines the ancient environment of the Witham Valley

In recent years, there has been much interest in increasing our understanding of the ancient environment of the River Witham and the Witham Valley.  New technologies are enabling archaeologists to look at the ancient river in ways unimaginable just a few years ago.

Dr Steve Malone has been at the forefront of using a technique known as LIDAR ('LIght Detection And Ranging') to change the way we look at the River Witham forever.

This free public lecture will be of interesting to anyone who wishes to learn more about the ancient landscape of Lincolnshire's most important river, or about how cutting edge technology is changing the way archaeologists study lost landcapes.
