Evening Reception with Edmund de Waal

Join us for an evening reception celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Lincolnshire Arts Supporters’ Society with a presentation of a new ceramic piece from Edmund de Waal.

The Lincolnshire Arts Supporters’ Society is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an evening reception to be held at The Collection on 26th April 2103 at 6pm.  The Society commissioned the acclaimed ceramicist Edmund de Waal to create a new ceramic piece for the Usher Gallery, which will be formally presented on the evening.

Edmund de Waal was born in Nottingham but spent several of his childhood years here in Lincoln, when his father was Chancellor at Lincoln Cathedral.  Edmund made his first pot when he was five, and his interest in pottery grew from there.  He is particularly interested in porcelain with celadon glazes, and his work can be seen in several national museum collections and stately homes.  It is a privilege to have this piece presented to the Usher Gallery, where it will sit well with the historic ceramic collections of porcelain.

Edmund de Waal is also the author of the book The Hare with Amber Eyes, a family memoir, and he will be signing copies at the evening reception.  There will also be a showing of a new 30 minute film about the artist.

The Lincolnshire Arts Supporters’ Society will also be presenting two awards to craftworkers at Lincoln Cathedral, Dan Beal and Adam Wilcockson, who will be showing examples of their work.

All are welcome to attend this reception.  Tickets for the evening reception cost £25, including drinks and canapés.  Tickets are available from Mrs S Wrisdale, The Laurels, East Keal, Spilsby PE23 4BA, or telephone 01790 752251.

Following the formal presentation of the ceramic piece on the evening of 26th April it will soon after be displayed at the Usher Gallery.  Check the website again to find out more about the new work, as it is being kept under wraps until the presentation.
