Betty’s Windows
New exhibition 'Betty's Windows' is on display in the Courtyard Gallery at The Collection
Betty's Windows is a newly commissioned seriess of artworks using stitch, found windows, belongings and little histories, by North East Lincolnshire based artist and tutor, Jo Smith. It is an embroidered narrative inspired by the house of former botanist, Betty Watkinson.
'I used to pass Betty's house on my way to work in Cleethorpes; you could tell it was a time capsule of a captured age and memory. When the house came up for sale and was redeveloped into flats, I rescued the old windows that were taken out to make room for modern ones.'
This exhibition, on display in the Courtyard Gallery until the 9th December 2018, is a collection of work in celebration of all those we do and do not know , behind closed doors and net curtains, all of whom are remarkable and have stories to tell.
