Grayson Perry: The Vanity of Small Differences

Lincoln Museum were delighted to host Grayson Perry’s 'The Vanity of Small Differences', which tells the story of class mobility and the influence that our social class has on aesthetic taste.Through six large-scale tapestries, Perry explores his fascination with taste and class. The tapestries weave autobiographical references with characters, places and objects that Perry encountered on his travels through regions of England for the Channel 4, BAFTA-winning documentary series ‘All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry’ (2012). Taking inspiration from many art-historical references, in particular Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress, this exhibition tells the story of the rise and demise of Tim Rakewell, aiming to act as a record of a precise moment in history. The exhibition was open from 23 September 2023 until 21 January 2024,  Thursday – Monday, 10am – 4pm. The Vanity of Small Differences is an Arts Council Collection Touring exhibition, jointly owned by Arts Council Collection, Southbank Centre, London and British Council. Gift of the artist and Victoria Miro Gallery with the support of Channel 4 Television, the Art Fund and Sfumato Foundation with additional support from Alix Partners.
