Saturday 12 October 2024, Hannah Cawthorne, Galleries 5 & 7 from 12.30pm – 3.30pm. Free entry.
This Saturday Hannah Cawthorne will be taking up residence in the Usher Gallery within the LAS exhibition. During her residency, Hannah will be working on a large-scale landscape painting inspired by sketches and photographs from her travels this year. Hannah takes inspiration from her love of exploring, taking the car and the tent and seeing the world. Some of the destinations Hannah will be drawing inspiration from include Pompeii, Lake Garda, the French Alps and many other quiet scenes. Hannah's approach is very instinctual and spontaneous, changing in the moment. Hannah will start with her inspiration but will be planning the painting as it evolves and comes to life.
Hannah Cawthorne paints colour-drenched and dynamic abstract and semi-abstract artworks on canvas and paper. Her art practice is about cultivating joy in the process of creation and in the finished piece. The world can be a very awful place, but art is a source of profound positivity and hope. That is Hannah’s belief, and one she mindfully enhances in her art practice.
Her work is created in a very unplanned, spontaneous way that allows the artwork to continuously evolve in the process of creation. This is the way of approaching work that she will seek to demonstrate during her pop-up artist’s residency.
